God Is Not Hiding

Sunday in class we looked at the concept of general revelation.  Psalm 19:1-6 teaches us several things.  Verses 1&2 say “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.  Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.”  So God’s revelation of Himself and His glory never stops…it is day after day and night after night.  There is no pause button.  His revealing Himself to us through creation is always on “play”!  Awesome!!!  We discussed in class that the “noise” of life can distract us from paying attention to the glory of God through His creation.  In addition, people can flat out deny the God of creation b/c their hearts are hard and their spiritual eyes are blind.  Most importantly we see in verse four that this general revelation goes through all the earth.

We also looked at Romans 1:20 and see that His attributes can be seen through His creation.  The glory (worth, weightiness) of God is the sum of His attributes.  Just a few of His attributes we see in creation is power (see Isaiah 40:26), wisdom (Psalm 104:24), love (common grace–rain, food, happiness fall on the sinners and saints).

While general revelation is a great blessing and a points us to a gracious God, it has its limits.  It is enough to make all men responsible and without excuse (Romans 1:20), but not enough to save.  People are saved by responding to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This should move us.  There are people everywhere who have seen the glory of God…but either have suppressed it, or are waiting for someone to articulate the gospel to them.
