Archive for December, 2011

Sunday we will begin a study about abiding in Christ.  The study comes from John MacArthur, and you can find the study on-line at

MacArthur’s studies are usually very detailed (this one is 6 weeks over John 15:1-25).  Not sure will wade that deep into it….will just see what happens.

Check out the link above and look at the first lesson—I will try to have a summary handout.

This is great topic to discuss—abiding in Christ.

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.

Mark mentioned Sunday that Lynwood would be reading through the Bible chronologically in 2012.  George Guthrie, author of Read the Bible for Life, has a great resource to help with this.  It is the “Reader’s Guide To The Bible:  A Chronological Reading Plan”.  It is available at LifeWay in Cape (no, Michael Wilson did not put me up to this).

I bought the guide a few months ago and plan to use it in 2012.  The guide is broken into 3 “Acts”.  Each “Act” covers a different theme of Scripture.  Act 1 is God’s Plan for All People, Acts 2 is God’s Covenant People, and Act 3 is God’s New Covenant People.

Each week, Dr. Guthrie (or George as I like to call him) gives an overview of the week’s readings and each day has a short bit of helpful commentary and questions to ponder/meditate on.

There are also three timelines in the book; 2 OT and 1 NT that really help you tie the events of Scripture together.

I’m telling you, it looks like a great resource.  Go grab one today.  Or grab more than one and give one away!

Sunday we will look at the idea of “watching and waiting” for the second advent.  We will also watch a cool video that will tie together the longing of the OT folks for the Messiah, the coming of Jesus, and how we are to long for His return.

Will look at 2 Peter 3:8-14

Feed My Starving Children

Posted: December 9, 2011 in Community, Ministry

Reminder for those of you who got in on the Feed My Starving Children event on Saturday.  We are signed up to work from 11:30 to 1:3o.  Is that right Wit”foot”?

Will meet you there.  It is at the Shawnee Park Center in Cape.

Great way to serve and have some fun as a class!

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.  And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.—–Isaiah 58:10-11

See you there!

Check out for our lesson this week.  It will be over week 3 looking at the incarnation of Christ and the implications.  I believe it starts on page 25.

Think about what it means that the eternal Word became a man named Jesus.  Why is it so important that Jesus put on flesh?

Just as Jesus was “sent” into the world, so have we been sent.  How are you doing at being Jesus to people?

Alex will be doing the teaching this week.  Will be a great lesson.
